Miami defeats NC State in a thrilling comeback on Saturday inside the Lenovo Center.
With the loss, the Pack falls to
18-8, 9-4 in the ACC, while Miami improves to 20-5, 9-3 in the ACC.
With 1:07 left in the game, a
second-chance lay-up gave NC State a 76-69 lead. This came as the Wolfpack were
on an 11-0 run after two free throws gave Miami a 69-65 advantage with less
than 6 minutes left in the game.
Malik Reneau completed a
three-point play to bring Miami down by four with less than a minute to go.
NC State turned over the ball
in the backcourt, allowing the Hurricanes to score with 32 seconds remaining.
The Wolfpack had a second
turnover on the next possession, but Miami missed a free throw and a
three-point shot off an offensive rebound. This gave NC State the ball back
with just 17 seconds to go.
Senior guard Quadir Copeland was
fouled in the backcourt by forward Shelton Henderson. Copeland missed the free throw,
giving the ball back to the Hurricanes.
With less than 5 seconds left
in the game, Tru Washington was fouled as he attempted a three-pointer. He made
all three free throws to give Miami the win, 77-76.
Miami finished the game with 20
offensive rebounds, which led to a 22-10 advantage in second-chance points. The Hurricanes also outscored NC State, 56-32, in points in the paint.
At halftime, NC State had the lead, 42-37, after a tightly contested opening 20
minutes. The first half saw 10 lead changes and eight ties between the two
teams.
NC State is back in action on Tuesday when it hosts No. 11 North Carolina
(20-5,8-4 ACC) at the Lenovo Center. The game will be televised on ESPN. Tipoff
against the Tar Heels is scheduled for 7 p.m.
