Miami family displaced after garage, carport scorched in fire
MIAMI — A Miami family of five has been displaced following a house fire early Tuesday morning.
According to City of Miami Fire-Rescue Lt. Pete Sanchez, the fire was reported just after 5 a.m. at a home in the 2200 block of Southwest 24th Terrace.
Sanchez said firefighters arrived at the scene to find a single-family home with heavy smoke and flames coming from the garage and carport.

Additional fire rescue crews were dispatched and firefighters doused the flames with hose lines as other crews searched the home for any occupants.
Sanchez said all residents made it safely out of the home before fighters arrived and crews helped the family with removing their pets from the home, including a dog and several birds.
The fire was brought under control within 10 minutes and was contained to the garage and carport, Sanchez said.
According to Sanchez, the family of five adults, along with their dog and birds, will be displaced due to smoke damage throughout the home.
He confirmed the family did not need assistance with housing and will be staying with relatives.
The Miami Fire Investigation Unit is investigating the cause of the fire.
