No. 14 Seton Hall Prep nipped at Miami Holiday Invitational – Boys basketball recap
Despite a career-high 22 points from freshman Bryce McCray, Seton Hall Prep, No. 14 in the NJ.com Top 20, was defeated by Riviera Prep (FL), 68-65, in the Miami Holiday Invitational.
Seton Hall Prep (5-2), got double-doubles from Alenx Ante (16 points, 12 rebounds) and Anthony Gonzalez (14 points, 10 assists), which while in a losing result, head coach Sterling Gibbs believed was his team’s top performance of the young season.
“Tonight we showed what we’re made of,” said Gibbs. “We went toe-to-toe with one of the top teams in the country with four four-star prospects. I’m very proud of all of our players.”
Eight of Gonzalez’s points came in a 20-16 third quarter, which saw Seton Hall Prep take a 49-47 lead.
Riviera Prep, which defeated No. 4 St. Peter’s Prep one day earlier, was led by Mason Fuentes’ 19 points. Myles Fuentes and Quincy Douby Jr. scored 15 points apiece, while JJ Watts had 14.
