Search continues for gunman following deadly drive-by shooting in northeast Miami-Dade

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A deadly drive-by shooting in northeast Miami-Dade left a driver dead and his teenage passenger hospitalized as a trauma alert.

The red car they were traveling in was blasted with bullets.

It happened just after 3:30 p.m. Monday, near Northeast 183rd Street and I-95.

Police say the gunman was likely riding in a white sedan when they opened fire on the red car, which had at least 30 bullet holes visible from the street.

Investigators said the man who was killed was the driver of the red car. Police identified him on Tuesday as 20-year-old Alexander Shearer.

Paramedics rushed a 17-year-old who was riding as a passenger in that car to Aventura Hospital after she was shot in the hand.

While the road has since been reopened, that wasn’t the case Monday night after police shut down the street for investigators, causing some major traffic tie-ups right next to busy I-95.

Despite spending hours at the scene, and even using K-9′s to search for clues, officers were not able to track down the shooter.

At least one neighbor claims he saw a third person jump out of the red car not long after it came to a stop.

At this point though, detectives say they’re still investigating that element.

Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
