Brandon Compton – 2025 Miami Marlins Draft Picks
Pre-draft rankings: 41st on Baseball America, 47th on MLB Pipeline, 105th on FanGraphs, 56th on Just Baseball
Compton had an immediate impact as a freshman with Arizona State in 2024, when he hit .355/.427/.661 with 14 home runs and 16 doubles to win Pac-12 freshman of the year. That summer he also hit well in the Cape Cod League for Cotuit and entered his 2025 draft-eligible season with lofty offensive expectations. He regressed a bit and slashed .278/.383/.498 with nine home runs and 18 doubles.
Compton has tons of strength and power packed into his barrel-chested, 6-foot-1, 225-pound frame. He has a relatively short and compact left-handed swing that can generate easy plus raw power and 90th percentile exit velocities around 110 mph. He shattered MLB Draft Combine records for both average and max exit velo. While Compton’s power is obvious, his approach can often be a bit too boom-or-bust. He hit well out of the gate in 2025, but his approach regressed as the year progressed. At times he can both expand the zone and swing-and-miss too frequently. He hit just .139 against fastballs thrown 93 mph or harder and will need to sharpen his pitch recognition and bat-to-ball skills versus spin. Compton has some on-base skills and owns a respectable 13.2% career walk rate.
There’s plenty of pressure on his bat because Compton is a high-probability left fielder who is just a fair runner, thrower and defender.
