Ex-Miami Northwestern Senior High football coach arrested for sexual misconduct with minor: Cops
DORAL, Fla. — Tyresse Leonard Jones, a security guard at JC Bermudez Doral Senior High School who formerly coached at Miami Northwestern Senior High School, was arrested Wednesday by the Miami-Dade Schools Police Department for allegedly soliciting sexual activity from a student under 18, authorities confirmed.
An arrest report from the Miami-Dade Schools Police Department states that Jones initially communicated with the student via Instagram and phone messages.
Police said Jones was “someone she trusted,” having been her former coach at Miami Northwestern Senior High School, and their conversations at first were friendly.
While at school, the student claimed that she sometimes asked Jones to speak with her teachers to excuse her from class once she finished her assignments, which he did, according to the report.
However, authorities say Jones, who lives in Miami-Dade’s Brownsville neighborhood, allegedly escalated the relationship by asking her to meet him in the school locker room multiple times.
The student declined the invitations, but Jones reportedly became physical, grabbing her jacket in the chest area, pinning her against a wall, and brushing his hand across her body, according to police.
The report states that Jones sent explicit sexual messages through phone and Instagram, including comments on her posts, and offered money and personal grooming services such as hair and nail care in exchange for sexual activity.
Detectives said they interviewed the student last week, who confirmed that Jones had been her former flag football coach and was currently employed as a security guard at the school.
In a statement, Miami-Dade County Public Schools officials said the type of behavior Jones is accused of “will not be tolerated as it runs contrary to the professional conduct we expect from all employees.”
The district added that it has begun termination proceedings and will ensure Jones cannot seek future employment with the school system.
As of Wednesday afternoon, he was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond was listed as “to be set.”
