Miami Outlasts Stanford, 83-76, in Overtime Win

DULUTH, Ga. (theACC.com) – In a back-and-forth game of runs, the No. 12-seeded Miami Hurricanes overcame a sluggish fourth quarter to outlast No. 13-seeded Stanford 83-76 in overtime in the first round of the 2026 Ally ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament on Wednesday in Greater Atlanta.

The win was Miami’s second over Stanford in the last two weeks, defeating the Cardinal at home 66-41 back on February 19.

With the win, Miami (17-13) will move on to play No. 5-seeded Notre Dame in the second round on Thursday, March 5, at 1:30 p.m. ET.

Miami, which shot 81.3 percent in the third quarter and 50.8 percent overall for the game, had a trio of players score over 20 points for the game, with Ra Shaya Kye leading the way with a game-high 25 points to go along with 11 rebounds. Gal Raviv and Amarachi Kimpson followed with 20 points each in the overtime win.

Stanford (19-13), which overcame a 13-point deficit at the end of the third quarter, shot 44.4 percent (12-of-27) from behind the three-point line for the game and had four players in double figures. Courtney Ogden led the Cardinal with 22 points and six assists, while Hailee Swain added 17 points. Lara Somfai and Nunu Agara finished with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Stanford opened the scoring in the first period with a three-pointer from Swain before pulling out to a four-point edge at 8-4 on a three-point play by Ogden with 7:12 to go in the opening period.

However, Miami responded with a 15-0 run and outscored the Cardinal 15-2 over the rest of the first quarter to take a 19-10 lead into the second period.

Stanford used the three-ball to fight back into the contests, with three consecutive threes from Ogden, Alexandra Eschmeyer and Ogden again to cut the Hurricanes’ lead to four at 25-21 with 6:57 remaining in the first half.

After Miami pulled back out in front by nine at 30-21 on a three-pointer of its own from Kimpson, the Cardinal got hot on the offensive end, running off 10 straight points to retake the lead at 31-30.

The two teams traded baskets over the final three minutes with Stanford on top 39-37 heading into the halftime break.

The game of runs continued in the third period, as after four ties and three lead changes, the Hurricanes went on a 14-2 run to close out the quarter with their largest lead of the game at 65-52.

Down, but not out, the Cardinal chipped away to trim the Miami lead to seven at 66-59 with 7:42 to go in the contest on another Ogden three-point play.

After Miami scored four quick points on a pair of layups to push the lead back out to double digits at 70-59, the two teams would go ice cold from the floor over the next four minutes of play until a three-pointer from Somfai ended the scoring drought with 2:45 to go in regulation.

The Somfai three-pointer was the first three points of an 11-0 run for the Cardinal who battled back to tie the game up at 70-70 on an Ogden driving layup with less than 20 seconds to go in the game.

Miami was unable to get a final shot off in the final seconds of the contest to send the game into overtime knotted up at 70-70.

Miami, which scored just five points over the entire fourth quarter, its lowest total of the season, took a three-point lead on a three-pointer from Amarachi Kimpson to open the overtime frame and did not look back, connecting on 8-of-10 free throw attempts to outscore Stanford 13-6 and pull away for the 83-76 first-round win.
