Deborah Cox celebrates career and creativity over 30 years in Miami

MIAMI — Considered one of the most powerful voices in music, Deborah Cox has solidified herself as a formidable vocalist over decades in the industry.

Calling Miami home for more than 30 years, Cox sat down with Local 10 News at Pari Pari in Wynwood to celebrate her multifaceted career and the ways she continues to evolve.

“I’m feeling really good. I feel really blessed to still be here, doing what I love to do, and it’s still making a difference,” Cox said.

Early in her career, many called Cox the new Whitney Houston, but she says Houston became a mentor and strong supporter.

“With her, I had that incredible access to be able to have really in-depth conversations just about life,” Cox said. “And this is, you know, at the peak of her career. Like looking at her and going, wow, you have you have it all seemingly. And she would be like, no, you know, girl, go have your babies and have, you know, have a life, you know, outside of this.”

Not one to be defined by a single genre or label, Cox has explored new ways to be creative and find happiness — including wine.

“Red, red. Red, red. And it was like. I want something organic. I want something that tastes good. I want something that is clean. And I feel like, you know, there’s a generation of people that still love wine and want another alternative. You know, it’s served here at Patti, Patti and certain, you know, wines can be paired with anything. And because I choose that that brand wanted something that represented community and love,” she said.

Through music and new ventures like wine, Cox continues to grow, create and connect with her community.
