Miami Realtors set to sign 300th international partnershi

The Miami Association of Realtors, the largest local realtor association in the nation, is working toward enhancing its programming, participating in major real estate events along with expanding its partnerships and global reach.

The association was chartered by the National Association of Realtors in 1920. Composed of six organizations, it represents more than 60,000 professionals in real estate sales, marketing and brokerage.

“Well, we’re a major success story,” said Miami Realtors CEO Teresa King Kinney. “I came in August of 1993 and at the time we had just under 5,000 members and now we have 60,000.”

In June 2024, the association more than doubled the space it had at its old headquarters when it opened a Class A, five-story Global Headquarters at 1800 Oakwood Drive. The 118,000-square-foot facility, which was designed by the members themselves, can host up to 300 people in the conference center, 85 in the expandable multipurpose training room and 70 in the computer lab. The building is used to train members, network and make deals, host major global conferences and events and hold professional standards hearings.

“It’s kind of the foundation of, culmination of 15 years of planning and hoping and dreaming to get to the facility we have right now,” Ms. Kinney said.

In addition, the association has major events coming up this year, including commercial and global conferences. The Miami Global Real Estate Congress has been hosted at its Miami headquarters twice.

Ms. Kinney said Miami Realtors will be signing its 300th international partner association at an international conference in mid-March. It currently has the most international real estate partners of any realtor association in the nation, with international partners in more than 77 countries and six continents.

“Nobody out-globals Miami,” she said. “We started the global initiative shortly after I came, so about 30 years ago, and we have, we’re going to be signing our 300th international partner association at a big event that we’re going to, a big international conference we’re going to in mid-March.”

The Beacon Council will be joining Miami Realtors at the world’s largest global real estate conference in March called MIPIM Global Urban Festival in Cannes, France, for the first time. She said the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau will also be joining for the third year.

As for the next steps on its agenda for education, Miami Realtors is working toward building a “new Miami Realtors live online” that holds recorded programs and seminars for members and global partners to access at any time.

Another focus area is products and services. The association recently had three demos on three new products that it will be implementing.

“We have 220 leading-edge products and services to help our members succeed,” she said.

Miami Realtors has the largest association-owned multiple listings service (MLS) in the US. An MLS is a database of property listings used by real estate agents. These systems provide detailed information on properties, such as square footage, features and listing prices.

“We are the source of the source, so whenever you see any data coming out of the national association or real estate companies or data providers and they are citing that data from the Miami MLS, they are getting that data from us,” Ms. Kinney said. “We are the only source of the data on the MLS for Miami MLS in Southeast Florida.”

Within the last 10 months, she said, Miami Realtor’s MLS was connected with 11 of the largest MLSs in the entire country and its first one in Canada.

“This means that over 500,000 real estate professionals in 12 organizations, including us, are all connected and have access to each other’s MLS data, so that’s incredibly exciting and important,” Ms. Kinney said.

She added that “connecting listings and data is going to be global” next.

In regards to advocacy, the association’s five-member advocacy team recently came back from meetings with legislators at the state capitol and will attend Miami-Dade County Days, or Dade Days, in Tallahassee. The Dade Days website says the two-day event that takes place from Feb. 10 to 11 “includes more than 1,000 people, representing over 200 organizations from both the private and public sectors.”

The association is now aiming to release an additional new construction global sales report this month.

“We started doing it with the national association 15 years ago and we actually ended up hiring the person from the national association who used to do our report, and she’s been our chief economist for five years,” Ms. Kinney said. “We did our first new construction Global Sales Report ever, and it was a huge hit with the media. We did that in July, and that was on Latin American buyers buying new construction properties in Southeast Florida; we followed up in November with one that said where the buyers are coming from worldwide for our condos and it’s an amazing 73 countries.”

Miami Realtors’ growth is reflected in every aspect of the association.

“It’s been growth in terms of number of members … it’s been growth in terms of global reach and global partnerships,” she said. “It’s gone from no global partnerships 30 years ago to what will soon be over 300 signed agreements with international associations worldwide. And now we’re expanding that global … into education and partnering more closely with them on additional services.”
