Man accused of Uber attack, causing crash remains behind bars in Miami-Dade

MIAMI — A 26-year-old man accused of sexually battering an Uber driver and causing her to crash remained behind bars on Tuesday afternoon in Miami-Dade County.

Oscar Sanchez was at the Metrowest Detention Center near Doral, according to Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation’s inmate records.

Sanchez, who was born in El Salvador and lives in Miami’s Little Havana, has an active U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement hold, records show.

On Monday, the victim told Local 10 News that the sexual assault was to blame for her losing control and crashing into a car at Southwest Sixth Avenue and Seventh Street.

“He covered my mouth and began to grope me,” said the victim, who had bruises on her neck and chest and scrapes on her mouth.

After the collision, the other driver, who had a passenger, crashed into the wall of a church, and she crashed into the wall of a storage facility. Sanchez fled.

Miami police officers reported arresting Sanchez shortly before 2:30 a.m. on Saturday at Southwest 11 Avenue and Eighth Street in Little Havana.

Corrections booked him shortly before 10:50 p.m. on Saturday at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, according to inmate records.

Sanchez, who is also known as Oscar Ernesto Sanchez Aguirre, appeared in bond court shortly after 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Sanchez faced four charges: Battery and two counts of culpable negligence. A bond court judge ordered Sanchez to stay away from the victim and set his bond at $1,450.
