According to an arrest warrant from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, the attack happened on May 20, 2025, at the Seasons of Garden Senior Residence, located at 17250 SW 137th Ave.

Deputies said the victim lives at the facility.

According to the warrant, a witness who works at the facility was in the hospice dining room, assisting patients, when she heard someone yelling.

The witness said she turned around and saw Berta Canina-Ramos, of Miami, yelling at the victim and then striking the victim on the shoulder and arm with an open hand.

Deputies said the witness intervened by positioning herself between Canina-Ramos and the victim.

According to the warrant, Canina-Ramos walked away briefly before returning to yell at the victim.

Deputies said she then grabbed the victim’s clothes and then struck her again, “this time seizing her wrist with sufficient force to cause an abrasion that resulted in bleeding.”

Deputies said the witness placed a napkin on the victim’s injury to stop the bleeding and took photos of the victim’s injuries with her cellphone, which she provided to detectives.

Detectives said they also obtained surveillance video from the facility that corroborates the witness’s statement.

Canina-Ramos was arrested Tuesday on a charge of physical abuse of an elderly/disabled adult.

As of Wednesday morning, the Cuban national remained held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $2,500 bond.
