Archbishop of Miami leads ride to help those suffering from addiction

Bikers join Miami Archbishop for ride in support of rehab

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A group of bikers joined the Archbishop of Miami on Sunday morning in Miami-Dade County.

Archbishop Thomas Wenski led them on a ride from Doral to Key Largo.

The group was fundraising for St. Luke’s Center, an award-winning rehab facility.

“Addiction is a disease that needs to be treated, and St Luke’s does that. Oftentimes, we think of it as just a moral failing or a crime, but it’s a disease like alcoholism,” Wenski said.

The Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Miami funds the center with a group of strategic partners, including the Florida Department of Children and Families and The Children’s Trust.

Wenski followed the Roman Catholic Church’s requirement to send a letter of resignation on his 75th birthday to Pope Leo XIV, but he said he has no plans to step down anytime soon.
