Miami man accused of stealing tow truck after crash

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A Miami man got in a four-car wreck on a Palmetto Expressway offramp and then, bizarrely, took off with a tow truck that was at the scene, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Authorities said it happened just before 9:30 p.m. Wednesday at Bird Road.

According to an arrest report, an FHP trooper was speaking to one of the drivers when the tow truck driver “started screaming that one of the drivers involved in the crash stole his tow truck.”

“As I looked back, I saw a black tow truck with amber lights on taking off at a high speed,” the trooper wrote.

Authorities said Alejandro Sosa Godoy, 29, of Flagami, was behind the wheel and drove off onto Bird Road, where the trooper stopped him just east of Southwest 79th Avenue, not far from the Palmetto.

During a pat-down, the trooper discovered that Sosa had also pocketed the tow truck driver’s iPhone, the report states.

The report doesn’t state whether Sosa gave a reason for allegedly stealing the tow truck.

It does state, however, that there was no indication of alcohol or drug use and that he had a warrant out for his arrest for driving while suspended.

Sosa now faces much more serious charges of grand theft auto, grand theft and burglary.

As of Thursday afternoon, he was being held in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $5,000 bond.
