Live updates: Ole Miss vs. Miami in the College Football Playoff semifinals
Few expected Ole Miss or Miami to still be alive in the College Football Playoff bracket, especially when considering the data from our CFP Bracket Challenge Game.
While No. 6 seed Ole Miss was predicted by 87 percent of fans to win its rematch against American Conference champion Tulane, fans weren’t so confident in a quarterfinal matchup for the Rebels.
After defeating Tulane 41-10, Ole Miss faced another rematch, this time against SEC champion Georgia. We the fans — yes I’m including myself here — picked the Bulldogs to sweep the Rebels in the season series at a near 86 percent rate.
So much for that. Ole Miss proved us all wrong with a 39-34 win in the Sugar Bowl to advance to the College Football Playoff semifinals.
Then there’s No. 10 seed Miami. The Hurricanes were the last team to receive an at-large bid to the playoff after a 10-2 finish kept them out of the ACC Championship Game.
Once Miami got in the field, it had to visit a one-loss Texas A&M team in College Station that nearly 70 percent of fans picked to win. The Hurricanes pulled off the upset in a 10-3 defensive battle.
Miami then had to face the defending national champion Ohio State Buckeyes. Fans had sparse confidence in the Hurricanes in the quarterfinal round too; nearly 80 percent of fans picked the Buckeyes to knock off the Hurricanes.
Instead, Miami landed its second upset of the tournament, holding off Ohio State in a 24-14 win to secure a CFP semifinal berth.
So who are the fans picking in this matchup?
Fans that correctly predicted the Miami-Ole Miss semifinal have the Hurricanes winning at a 54 percent rate.
Miami is the favorite amongst fans for the first time all tournament. Will the Hurricanes prevail? Or will Ole Miss spoil Miami’s shot at playing a national championship in its home stadium?
