Miami offense soars as Falcons fall 93-83 – BG Falcon Media

Bowling Green, OH – Falcons junior forward Mayar Wol (9) shooting a layup at the Stroh Center in Bowling Green, Ohio.

BGSU men’s basketball (10-4) (1-1) succumbed to a Mid-American Conference (MAC) rival and the undefeated Miami RedHawks in a 10-point loss at the Stroh Center, 93-83. Given the loss, Bowling Green will fall to fourth in the MAC going into the new year.

“We got our guys in foul trouble early, and it really took us out of our rhythm early with some of the things we planned to do,said men’s head basketball coach Todd Simon, who is in his third season at the helm for BG. During his time with the Falcons, Simon has posted a record of 1-3 against Miami of Ohio.

While it was a rough game for the Falcons, Bowling Green knew they would produce on the defensive side of the ball, finishing the game with just 18 defensive rebounds.

“We want to be one of the best defensive teams in the country, and in the first half, that just wasn’t us,said senior guard Javontae Campbell

Defense carried over to the offense for the Miami RedHawks, due to 17-point performances from redshirt sophomore Brant Byers, as well as senior guard Peter Suder. Contributing 34 of the team’s total 93 points, showing nine different players on the score sheet.

“Way too many gaps, bad switches—this team (Miami) is the best 3-point shooting team arguably in the country… guys started to learn what the margins of victory are, said Simon.

As Miami of Ohio knocked down 93 points tonight, they would match a similar number seen in the historical battle between Orange and Brown against Red and White. Dating back to Feb. 18th, 1944, Bowling Green has faced Miami 152 times. Of those games, 93 would result in a victory for the RedHawks.

“You play a good team; you don’t have that margin of error. Hopefully, they stay behind us, and this is a team worth following, said Simon. The first half wasn’t nearly enough; there were a lot of layups we left on the rim.”

Referring to the points Bowling Green left unattended, yet found 83 due to a 24-point performance from senior forward Sam Towns, as well as 16 points from Campbell.

Overall, the Falcons will look ahead to 2026 after a 93-83 loss, with a trip to the University of Massachusetts (9-5, 0-2) on Jan. 3.

Falcon Media Sports Network will have the coverage of the game on bgfalconmedia.com.
