Louisville Defeats Miami (OH) 93-62

For the majority of the first quarter it appeared as though this might be a very long night for the Cards. With about 3:30 to go in the quarter the score was a paltry 8-6 and even after a scoring run that made the lead 21-12 going into the second quarter, Louisville shot just 14% from 3. By the time the Cards head to the locker room at halftime they were shooting 40% from the three and held a comfortable 50-25 lead. Miami of Ohio would not seriously challenge after Louisville took control of the game.

Skylar Jones came off the bench to spark the Louisville run. She had 17 of her 20 points in the first half. Coach Walz said, “Skylar was fantastic tonight. She had 7 boards, 20 points— 3 of 6 from three…. We looked for her and we found her, she ran the floor hard, and she knocked down open shots. I was proud of her. I thought she played within herself and played hard.”

Anaya Hardy had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Imari Berry had one of her most solid games scoring 10 points and getting 3 assists. Laura Ziegler had 15 points and 5 rebounds.

Coach Walz added, “This is a really good Ball State team that we just beat. They’re going to win a lot of basketball games. We came out and I thought we were very aggressive from the start which was what we needed to be and we dictated some things. I say it all the time: fouls matter. We got their top players in foul trouble early which did change the complexion of the game.”

Next up the Cards go on the road to face ACC opponent North Carolina. The game is Sunday at 4PM and can be seen on the ACC Network.
