Florida political party chairs react to Eileen Higgins win in Miami Mayor race
Democrats are celebrating after their party’s candidate won the Miami Mayor’s race Tuesday night.
Democrat Eileen Higgins won by almost 20 points.
Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried said her party is building momentum in Florida after winning several municipal elections last night, including the Miami Mayoral race.
“We’re building a coalition to make sure this pendulum swings, because you we know that a pendulum only swings when there’s a force behind it, and we and the Democratic Party are building that coalition to be the force behind the pendulum swing,” she said.
But Republican Party of Florida Chair Even Power thinks it’s just a flash in the pan and not a negative sign for his party.
“They find a victory in a Democrat-lean district, they win it and say that’s why they’re going to take back Florida. The reality of Florida is that every day, Floridians are rejecting the radical Democrat agenda and are becoming Republicans,” he said.
Across the country, Democrats have done better in special elections and municipal races than they did during the 2024 presidential elections. But in Florida, Republicans still hold a commanding voter registration lead of more than a million voters.
