Lionel Messi, David Beckham celebrate Inter Miami’s MLS Cup win with wives
Sealed with a kiss.
Lionel Messi capped off his first-ever MLS Cup win Saturday by sharing a heartfelt embrace with his wife, Antonela.
Moments after Inter Messi’s 3-1 triumph over Vancouver in the final, the 38-year-old Messi reunited with his biggest supporter in a private box at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, with ESPN cameras capturing the couple celebrating with a kiss.
Antonela, who has been married to Messi since 2017, later joined the superstar forward on the field with his teammates and their partners as they posed with the MLS Cup.
“A beautiful, emotional moment for us, for the people of Miami, to be able to achieve the MLS objective,” Messi said after he helped secure the club’s first championship, according to ESPN. “It’s a very new club, so to speak. When we played before, we were lucky enough to win a title, but this was the real objective, to win MLS and be at the top of the American league, and luckily we achieved it.”
The victory came roughly two years after Messi announced he was joining the MLS club, whose ownership group boasts soccer legend David Beckham.
Beckham, 50, celebrated with wife Victoria and their children while also embracing Messi on the field.
“He’s not just here to enjoy living in Miami,” said Beckham, who called it a career as a player in 2013. “His wife and the kids love Miami, but he’s come here to win, and that’s really what Leo is all about. He wants to win. He’s got that dedication, the loyalty that he shows to his teammates, to the city, to the club. Leo is a winner. It’s simple as that.”
Messi played for Paris Saint-Germain in France from 2021-23 before taking his talents stateside.
