One of the best players in the world looks to put another trophy on his mantle, as Lionel Messi leads Inter Miami in the 2025 MLS Cup against Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday night.
This is going to be an exciting battle between two teams that have never made it to this point in their respective histories. Despite winning the Supporters’ Shield last season, and the Leagues Cup in 2023, Messi has been unable to get Miami to the final, while the Whitecaps had never made it beyond the Western Conference Semifinals.
Despite having a topsy-turvy regular season, Miami rallied last in the season, winning the final three matches heading into the playoffs, and picking up points in seven of its final eight contests to move into third place.
They have certainly made a solid run in the playoffs, as Lionel Messi’s epic performance helped his side get through Nashville in a thrilling first-round series. Then, Miami lambasted Cincinnati in the second round, moving within a win of the MLS Cup Final for the first time in franchise history. Then, Miami hammered New York City FC, 5-1, in the East Final.
The Whitecaps entered the playoffs looking to turn things around after losing to FC Dallas on the final day of the regular season. Vancouver picked things up against Dallas in its first-round series, winning the best-of-three in two straight to advance in the postseason for the first time since 2017.
Then, the Whitecaps managed to get through a strong Los Angeles FC in the conference semifinals to move on to the West Final for the first time in franchise history. Then, they outlasted top-seeded San Diego last Saturday, 3-1.
