Miami Fans Fly Banner Making CFP Bracket Case in Photo Amid Notre Dame Debate

University of Miami supporters are making an aerial case as to why their team should make the College Football Playoff over Notre Dame.

Front Office Sports shared a video Saturday of a plane in Grapevine, Texas flying a banner reading “H2H MATTERS. MIAMI IN!”

The CFP selection committee is meeting at the Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine ahead of Sunday’s bracket reveal.

The Hurricanes opened the season with a 27-24 home win over the Fighting Irish.

No. 10 Notre Dame was still listed above No. 12 Miami in Tuesday’s penultimate CFP rankings despite both teams boasting a 10-2 record.

Notre Dame won’t be playing in a conference championship game as an independent, while Miami won’t get a chance to earn an automatic bid in the ACC thanks to Duke.

Despite their 7-5 record, the Blue Devils won a tiebreaker that will allow them to play Virginia for the ACC Championship on Saturday.

The Hurricanes are currently sitting behind No. 11 BYU, which has a chance to grab a guaranteed spot with a Big 12 Championship game win over Texas Tech.

Should BYU defeat Texas Tech, and No. 9 Alabama clinch a spot with a win over No. 3 Georgia in the SEC Championship game, there might not be enough at-large spots remaining for both Notre Dame and Miami.

CFP committee chair Hunter Yurachek was asked during a Saturday appearance on ESPN’s College GameDay if the results of this weekend’s conference championship games could change the decision to rank Notre Dame over Miami.

“We’ll evaluate what happens in today’s championship games… watching those games, we’ll use all those tools in our tool box to re-rank those teams tonight and in the early morning hours,” Yurachek said Saturday.

Notre Dame’s losses this season came to No. 10 Miami and No. 16 Texas A&M in the first two games of the season.

Head coach Marcus Freeman has made the argument that the Fighting Irish have proven they are one of the dozen best teams in the sport by ending the season with 10 straight wins.

Miami has two relatively weaker losses against unranked opponents in Louisville and SMU, but head coach Mario Cristobal has emphasized the head-to-head win over Notre Dame as the reason the Canes should make the playoff instead.

Both the Hurricanes and Fighting Irish will be keeping an eye on Saturday’s conference championship games, particularly those involving BYU and Alabama, ahead of the release of the final bracket Sunday night.
