Two unlikely teams will battle it out for a spot in the MLS Cup Final on Saturday, as Inter Miami gets set to host New York City FC in the 2025 Eastern Conference Final.

Despite having a topsy-turvy regular season, Miami rallied last in the season, winning the final three matches heading into the playoffs, and picking up points in seven of its final eight contests to move into third place.

They have certainly made a solid run in the playoffs, as Lionel Messi’s epic performance helped his side get through Nashville in a thrilling first-round series. Then, Miami lambasted Cincinnati in the second round, moving within a win of the MLS Cup Final for the first time in franchise history.

New York City was the only underdog to have made it out of the first round. They might have had a chance to be the higher seed heading into this matchup. However, the team dropped three of its final four games of the regular season, leading to a fifth-place finish. Yet, it was enough to get NYCFC to the postseason. Like last year, New York is the lower seed, but that did not stop them from beating Cincinnati in the first round.

NYCFC followed that up by eliminating the Supporters’ Shield winners, Philadelphia Union, and now seek its first championship match berth since winning it all in 2021.
