Miami-Dade man charged in connection with 2023 armed robbery
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A 62-year-old Miami-Dade man was arrested Wednesday after deputies say he threatened a victim with a gun and stole his cellphone over a year and a half ago.
Jail records show Victor Colon is facing one count of armed robbery with a firearm or deadly weapon in connection with an incident that occurred on Dec. 14, 2023.
According to an arrest report, the victim and his father reported the armed robbery to deputies at Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Northwest District Station on Dec. 17, 2023.
The victim told deputies that while he was playing video games in his room at his mother’s residence near the 20000 block of Northwest 52nd Avenue, Colon — who investigators described as a friend of his mother — rushed into the room and began cursing at him.
When the victim tried to leave through the front door while recording the incident on his cellphone, Colon allegedly pulled out a gun, walked toward him and snatched the phone from his hand, according to the report.
The victim told investigators that Colon grabbed him by the shirt, prevented him from leaving, and forced him to sit on a couch, deputies said.
The said Colon then allegedly began assaulting him with the gun by pointing it at him and pressing it into his head while saying “I should kill you,” according to the report.
The victim reported that Colon continued pointing the gun at him and at one point unchambered a round, pointed the gun at him and pulled the trigger.
Colon also allegedly told the victim, “I should bury you in the back with the rest of them,” the report stated.
According to deputies, Colon asked the victim’s mother if he could shoot her son, to which she replied “no.” He then allegedly slapped the victim approximately three times in the face, according to the report.
Authorities said victim told responding deputies that he was able to retrieve his phone and flee the residence when Colon went to use the restroom. While fleeing, they said he managed to photograph Colon’s vehicle license plate.
Detectives said they located Colon through the license plate number, and the victim positively identified him from a photograph.
As of Thursday, Colon is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond is listed as “to be set.”
