Brian Kelly Leaving LSU To Become Miami Dolphins Head Coach

Brian Kelly Leaving LSU To Become Miami Dolphins Head Coach

History ends up repeating itself quite often, and that could just very well happen again with the connection between the LSU Tigers and the Miami Dolphins. After finishing 9-4 last year with the LSU Tigers, Brian Kelly enters this college football season with immense pressure.

While LSU didn’t make it to the College Football Playoffs with their 9-4 record, it was just the first time out of Brian Kelly’s three years coaching LSU that the team had not reached 10 wins.

Still, with Garrett Nussmeier set to enter the NFL Draft after this season, the future for the Tigers becomes unclear, and something Brian Kelly should be keeping in mind. For this season, though, the Tigers seem to be set to bounce back as they had the ninth-ranked recruiting class, and the second overall transfer portal class.

If the LSU Tigers end up bouncing back, Brian Kelly could end up being looked at for NFL head coaching jobs, and the one that he could end up taking is with the Miami Dolphins.

Brian Kelly Hired By the Miami Dolphins to Replace Mike McDaniel

There arguably is no other head coach, outside of maybe Brian Daboll, that enters the upcoming NFL season with as much pressure as Mike McDaniel.

Entering his fourth season with the Dolphins, on the surface his 26-22 record doesn’t look horrible, but when considering 23 of those wins have come against sub-.500 teams at the time reflects poorly on McDaniel’s ability to win against the best teams in the NFL. With also being an offensive-minded head coach, and having that unit struggle also doesn’t give McDaniel any security either.

After trading away key players like Jonnu Smith and Jalen Ramsey as well, plus not giving Tua Tagovailoa a complete vote of confidence either, it seems as though the Dolphins’ organization is heading toward a rebuilding phase.

With moving on from Mike McDaniel, the Dolphins could end up looking to repeat history by looking at the college level, specifically LSU, a team in which they hired a coach from before in Nick Saban. This time, though, it would be Brian Kelly.

With the rumors of Nick Saban returning to coaching, LSU could be one of those destinations, which would further propel Brian Kelly to take a job at the NFL level. For the Dolphins, hiring Kelly would be an underrated choice, but one that makes sense.

Between his time at Notre Dame and now LSU, Brian Kelly has shown he is no stranger to building a culture and getting the locker room morale in a right place. Over both programs, he has been known to be great at developing talent, while also making sure his teams stay disciplined, leading to success and the teams ending up on the right path with being contenders.

The biggest thing with Brian Kelly is he has shown the ability to adapt his coaching style and not get caught up in the ways that were once successful for him years ago if he sees it isn’t working. His ability to relate to players, and bring a new style of coaching to the Dolphins will help them in the long run with bringing a new spark, and help in structuring the team better for the future.
