Maryland boxer Gervonta Davis arrested for domestic dispute in Miami
WASHINGTON (7News) — Boxing lightweight champion and Maryland native Geronta “Tank” Davis is facing charges in Florida after an alleged domestic dispute involving his girlfriend, according to ESPN and local ABC affiliate WPLG.
According to a report obtained by WPLG, the incident occurred around Father’s Day. Davis was taken into custody in Miami Beach before being moved to police custody in Doral, a town west of Miami.
Davis had been with his girlfriend for four years at the time of the incident, according to WPLG. Reportedly, the pair got into an argument regarding their children when Davis allegedly hit the victim on the back of the head and face.
Davis, who hails from Baltimore, Md., had a previous run-in with law enforcement in December of 2022, after he was accused of allegedly hitting a woman. Those charges were later dropped, according to ESPN.
According to the World Boxing Association, Davis has so far maintained an undefeated record of 30 wins and one draw, according to the sporting organization.
ESPN reports Davis is rumored for a Premier Boxing Champions rematch with Lamont Davis Jr. set for August, though no announcement has been made yet.
