Paola woman arrested after leading police on lengthy pursuit through Miami County

MIAMI COUNTY, Kan. (KCTV) – A Paola, Kansas, woman is in custody after leading police on a pursuit through Miami County Monday night.

The Miami County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called to assist the Paola Police Department with a vehicle pursuit after a suspect wanted for a domestic-related charge fled from police.

The sheriff’s office said Paola officers stopped pursuing the vehicle when it left their city, leaving Miami County Sheriff’s Office deputies to take over the chase, which took approximately 45 minutes and went through Paola and Osawatomie.

Eventually, the pursuit ended at the intersection of 327th Street and U.S. Highway 169 when deputies boxed in the vehicle.

Police said 63-year-old Christine M. Cantrell “armed herself with a knife and attempted to inflict self-harm.” Deputies disarmed her and took her into custody without further incident, the sheriff’s office said, avoiding injuries for Cantrell or any deputies.

Authorities said Cantrell will face multiple felony and misdemeanor charges.
