Al Ahly vs Inter Miami Prediction: 2025 FIFA Club World Cup Preview
We look ahead to the
opening match at the 2025 Club
World Cup with our Al Ahly vs Inter Miami prediction and
preview.
Al Ahly vs Inter Miami Stats: The Key
Insights
- Al Ahly are the favourites to win this match with the Opta
supercomputer, securing victory in 44.7% of pre-match
simulations. - Under the previous format, Lionel Messi scored five goals in
five matches in the FIFA Club World Cup, including scoring in all
three finals he appeared in. - Al Ahly have won more Egyptian top-flight titles (44) and more
CAF Champions League titles (12) than any other club.
Egyptian Premier League champions Al Ahly head to the Hard Rock
Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida to face Major League Soccer side
Inter Miami in the opening match of the 2025 FIFA Club World
Cup.
Al Ahly are one of four African clubs at the tournament and have
played in 10 previous editions of the competition, albeit across
entirely different formats than these finals. They are undoubtedly
the most decorated club side in African football, winning a record
12 CAF Champions League titles and 44 Egyptian top-flight league
titles – 30 more than any other side.
Inter Miami will have to be wary of the threat posed by Emam
Ashour, who finished as the Egyptian Premier League top goalscorer
in 2024-25 with 13 goals, while no player posted more assists than
he did across the campaign (7).
The experienced Hussein El Shahat could play some part in this
match for José Riveiro’s side. The 32-year-old holds the record for
the most matches played under the previous format of the FIFA Club
World Cup (17). The midfielder reached that total whilst playing
for Al Ain (4 matches) and current club Al Ahly (13).
With Hard Rock Stadium just over 20 miles south of Inter Miami’s
own stadium, it should feel like a home game for the MLS side, with
their fans expected to vastly outnumber those of the north African
giants. The majority of those fans will be there to see Lionel
Messi, who will likely start in attack alongside the similarly
experienced Luis Suárez.
Messi will play in his fourth FIFA Club World Cup, including the
previous format of the competition. He’s won the trophy in all
three of his previous participations (2009, 2011 and 2015), scoring
five goals in five appearances.
Head coach Javier Mascherano will hope that Messi can carry his
form from MLS into the Club World Cup, with the Argentine forward
providing more goal involvements (15 – 10 goals, 5 assists) than
any other player in the competition across the 2025 season so
far.
Al Ahly vs Inter Miami
Prediction
Despite being played in Miami, Al Ahly are tipped to defeat
Inter Miami by the Opta supercomputer.
The Egyptian side won 44.7% of the 10,000 pre-game simulations
compared to 29.4% won by the MLS side. Just over a quarter (25.8%)
of the sims ended in a draw.
Both clubs will be looking for a positive result in what might
be their best chance of getting a win at the tournament. Fellow
Group A sides FC Porto (60.7%) and Palmeiras (51.3%) are given
a higher chance of securing a place in the last 16 by the
supercomputer than Inter Miami (47.0%) and Al Ahly (41.1%).
