NTSB report reveals details of Miami helicopter crash
MIAMI, Texas (KFDA) – A federal investigation of the recent helicopter crash that killed a student pilot near Miami mentions conditions were foggy with low clouds and mist.
The report says a witness said the fog was so low he couldn’t estimate its height or see the color of the craft.
An examination at the site showed there were no signs of mechanical malfunctions before the helicopter hit the ground and exploded in flames.
The Texas Department of Public Safety said the crash happened on at just after 7:00 a.m. on May 23 and 31-year-old Travis Chester of Miami was the only person on the helicopter.
The NTSB report says he was flying from his home to Amarillo for an appointment and appeared to be having trouble controlling the flight.
