#3 seed Miami Hurricanes look to make noise in Hattiesburg Regional
HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) – The University of Miami is wiping the slate clean when the NCAA Hattiesburg Regional begins Friday.
The Hurricanes have endured a rough stretch heading into the NCAA Tournament, losing seven of their last eight games.
Miami coach J.D. Arteaga said there was uncertainty before his team made the field of 64, but the plan this weekend will be to go out there and play loose.
“It was a week of uncertainty,” Arteaga said. “We weren’t sure if we were getting in or not.”
“We kind of held our own destiny, losing that last week in Notre Dame and going one and out in our (conference) tournament.”
Arteaga said a week away from playing games might’ve been the best thing for his club.
“It was probably the best practice week we’ve had because guys just weren’t sure and took nothing for granted,” he said. “It’s been an up-and-down season for us. We started a little slow. In the middle, we really caught fire and went on a really good run. As of late, we’ve slowed down a little bit.
“But, we’ve had about a week off and a chance to regroup, and, hopefully, we show up back to where we were about a month and a half ago.”
Miami opens up the Hattiesburg Regional as the No. 3 seed against No. 2 seed University of Alabama at 2 p.m. on Friday.
