Evelyn Fernandez, now 53, shot at her ex-boyfriend, a retired Miami police major, in the area of Southwest 282nd Street and 167th Avenue in October 2023. While he was the target, she struck his vehicle instead.

She then barricaded herself inside another home before officers from her former employer ― what was then the Miami-Dade Police Department ― arrested her.

In addition to the seven-year prison sentence, which includes time served, she’ll spend 20 years on probation, two of which will be under GPS monitoring in Florida.

She’ll also be required to attend a treatment program in Tennessee, see a psychiatrist and take medication and will have a SCRAM bracelet, which monitors alcohol intake.

Had she not taken the plea deal, she could have spent 20 years to life in prison.
