$600M MIA Terminal Expansion Scheduled For County Vote – The Next Miami

A contract for an expansion of MIA’s South Terminal is on the agenda next week for Miami-Dade commissioners.

The South Terminal expansion received two design-build price proposals, according to a memo. The two evaluated price proposals were from Lemartec-NV2A ($532M) and Weitz-MCM JV ($743M).

Officials are recommending commissioners accept the lower priced proposal, with a max total contract amount of around $600m, including all contingencies and allowances.

The Lemartec team included Perez and Perez Architects as part of the team, while Weitz-MCM included architect Gensler.

Once the Notice to Proceed is issued by Miami-Dade, a contract time of 1,485 days (around 4 years) is provided.

Miami-Dade is expanding the South Terminal eastward to accommodate six additional domestic gates that will be needed to meet MIA’s future activity levels, including new entrant carriers.

The South Terminal expansion (known as Concourse K) is also an enabling project for the redevelopment of the Central Terminal.

It will offer replacement capacity for the existing domestic gates currently located in Concourse G, which is outdated and has reached the end of its useful life.

Demolition of Concourse G will also enable the eventual construction of the new Concourse F and improve aircraft circulation in the alleyways between the new Concourse F and existing Concourse H.

Miami-Dade is also scheduled to vote next week on a design contract for a project in the Central Terminal, which will see check-in and other areas rebuilt and modernized.

Miami-Dade’s Airport Committee is scheduled to vote on both items on May 14.
