Miami Falls to UC After Tough Seventh Inning


OXFORD, Ohio – Miami lost to the Cincinnati Bearcats Tuesday 6-4 after a six-run seventh inning for the Bearcats. David Novak kept the game close for Miami, going 3-for-3 and hitting a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth. Miami falls to 15-13 with the loss while Cincinnati improves to 17-11.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Miami struck first, scoring one run off two hits in the bottom of the third. Blake Buzzeo recorded Miami’s first hit of the game, a single to center field. Dillon Baker took an HBP and Ty Batusich singled down the left field line, bringing Buzzeo home for a 1-0 lead.
  • The RedHawks doubled their lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth. David Novak doubled down the left-field line. He came in to score as Ryan Novak singled.
  • Cincinnati hit a grand slam with two outs in the top of the seventh, taking a 4-2 lead. The Bearcats stretched their lead to 6-2 with three consecutive hits following the grand slam.
  • David Novak pulled the RedHawks back within two runs in the bottom of the eighth, hitting a two-run homer after a single by Evan Appelwick to make it 6-4.
  • Miami managed to fend off the Bearcats in the top of the ninth. The RedHawks proceeded to load the bases in the bottom of the ninth but fell just short, as Cincinnati closed out the game with a 6-4 victory.

The RedHawks will travel to Bowling Green this Friday to take on the Falcons, who they are tied with atop the MAC standings. Game one of the three-game series is set to start at 3 p.m. on Friday.
