UMD men’s hockey wins shootout against Miami Ohio on senior night

UMD men’s hockey bid farewell to six of their seniors on Saturday night before taking on Miami Ohio in their regular season finale, in which they tied the Redhawks 1-1 but came out on top in the shootout.

The Bulldogs struck first thanks to senior captain Dom James’ 17th goal of the season, flicking it just over the head of the Redhawks goaltender.

The 1-0 score would stand until the third period, when the Redhawks knot the game up at 1-1. Through overtime, neither team could find the back of the net, triggering the shootout.

It took nine shootout rounds, but finally Aaron Pionk finished the marathon with a goal.

UMD takes on St. Cloud State next week as they end the regular season on the road.
