Miami falls to ETSU in game three 17-7


JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The RedHawks dropped their series against ETSU on Sunday 17-7 after a 10-run first inning for the Bucs. Nine different RedHawks came up with hits during the loss. Miami falls to 3-4 while ETSU moves to 5-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • ETSU’s Jamie Palmese led off the bottom of the first with a solo home run to grab a 1-0 lead for the Bucs.
  • Cody Miller doubled to left, and JD Yakubinis singled to advance him to third. Tristan Curless walked to load the bases, and Cooper Torres walked to score Miller and make it 2-0 Bucs.
  • Grant Gallagher walked, extending the lead to 3-0. Will Smoot reached on a fielding error that allowed another run to score (4-0). Axel Melendez singled to right field, bringing two runners home and making the score 6-0 before stealing second.
  • Palmese recorded his second hit of the day, a single, which scored two more runs (8-0). A home run cleared the bags and capped off a 10-0 first inning for ETSU.
  • Gallagher led off the bottom of the second for ETSU with an infield single. Melendez singled, advancing Gallagher to third. A double by Palmese sent both runners home and made it a 12-0 game.
  • After a throwing error sent Palmese to third, a single by Yakubinis added another run to the score for ETSU, giving them a 13-0 advantage.
  • Tommy Harrison started up Miami’s bats in the top of the third with an infield single. Blake Buzzeo singled to left field, advancing Harrison to second. Dom Krupinski walked, loading the bases.
  • Evan Appelwick put the RedHawks on the board with an RBI single that scored two (13-2).
  • Palmese singled in the bottom of the fourth. Miller walked and Yakubinis took an HBP, loading the bases. An RBI groundout extended the lead to 14-2.
  • Ty Batusich singled in the top of the fifth. Dillon Baker also singled, moving Batusich to second. A fielding error stationed Appelwick at first base and loaded the bases.
  • David Novak singled to right field, sending Batusich and Baker home (14-4).
  • Anthony Zarlingo singled on the next at bat, sending Appelwick in to score (14-5). Justin Gorski came up with a bunt single on the following at bat, scoring Novak and pulling Miami back within eight runs (14-6).
  • Miller led off the bottom of the sixth for the Bucs with a home run to left center, making the score 15-6. Curless walked and advanced on a single by Torres. Ferguson walked to load the bases, and a sac fly scored Curless (16-6).
  •  An HBP loaded the bases for the Bucs. Melendez took a walk, scoring Torres and making the score 17-6.
  • Appelwick walked in the top of the seventh, and a double by Dom Magliocca sent Appelwick in to score. This rounded out a 17-7 final score in seven innings.

 
MIAMI GAME NOTES:

  • Appelwick went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs.
  • David Novak went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a run.

UP NEXT:
Miami will host the Wright State Raiders on Tuesday, Feb. 25, for its home opener. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
