Montgomery, Beckner Lead No. 19 Tigers Past Miami

Drew Montgomery scored twice and Owen Beckner added a goal and two assists to power No. 19 Colorado College past Miami, 6-1, Friday night at Ed Robson Arena.
 
Kaidan Mbereko had 23 saves as the Tigers improved to 15-13-1 overall and 9-9-1 in the NCHC, remaining in sixth place, just one point behind North Dakota. The RedHawks fell to 3-22-2 and 0-17-0 in the league and are now 0-12-2 in the last 14 games against CC.
 
The Tigers jumped out to an early lead when Philippe Blais-Savoie scored an unassisted goal 4:09 into the contest with a shot from the right point that snuck past Miami goaltender Bruno Bruveris (24 saves).
 
Montgomery scored the first of his two consecutive goals at the 6:08 mark when he knocked the puck out of the air into the net after a Miami defender blocked a shot by Ty Gallagher.
 
Gallagher and Montgomery hooked up again at the 8:46 mark to make it 3-0. Montgomery took a drop pass from Gallagher and his initial shot was saved by Bruveris but the sophomore from Grand Forks, N.D., put the rebound in an open net.
 
Beckner gave the Tigers a four-goal advantage 3:52 into the second period with his sixth goal of the season. He took a pass from behind the net from Zaccharya Wisdom and fired a shot past Bruveris from the slot.
 
The RedHawks got on the board at the 6:57 mark when Dylan Moulton collected the puck in the high slot after a pass was deflected by a Tiger defender and blasted a one-timer past Mbereko.
 
The Tigers made it 5-1 when Gavin Lindberg took a centering pass from Beckner and deposited the puck into the net from the slot for his third tally of the season at the 11:59 mark of the middle frame, then Klavs Veinbergs scored his eighth of the season to close the scoring at 3:25 of the third period, assisted by Beckner and Blais-Savoie.
 
With his three-point night, Beckner has 13 points in his last nine games.
 
The Tigers were 1-for-4 on the power-play and held Miami scoreless in six opportunities with a man advantage.
 
The teams will battle again on Saturday, Feb. 15, beginning at 6 p.m.
