Miami Heat trade disgruntled star Jimmy Butler to Golden State Warriors

On the eve of the trade deadline, the longest running saga in the NBA has finally come to an end. Multiple reports say the Miami Heat have traded disgruntled forward Jimmy Butler to the Golden State Warriors.

It’s the third blockbuster deal in four days and sends the 6 time all-star to the Bay Area in exchange for guards Andrew Wiggins, PJ Tucker from the Utah Jazz and a first round pick. There are four teams included in the deal with reports of five other players moving to new teams.
Butler, who was suspended for a third time in the past month by the Heat last week for “conduct detrimental to the team,” first requested a trade January 2nd

“I want to see me get my joy back from playing basketball and wherever that may be we’ll find out here pretty soon, I wanna get my joy back.”

Turns out it took more than a month, but the Heat were desperate to move him and the Warriors were desperate to find another star to pair with Steph Curry. So desperate in fact reports say they have signed Butler to a 2 year, $121 million extension that runs through the 2026-2027 season.

There were reports that the Phoenix Suns were the top team to land Butler and that the Warriors had their eye on a reunion with the Suns Kevin Durant – those deals obviously didn’t happen but stay tuned, there’s still time before the Thursday deadline for more movement.
