Henry Nets 25 Points as Eastern Falls at Miami


OXFORD, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Christian Henry scored 25 points to go with six assists as the Eastern Michigan University men’s basketball team dropped an 89-80 decision to the Mid-American Conference’s second-place team Miami University Tuesday, Jan. 28, inside Millett Hall.
 

Henry (Chicago, Ill./The Skill Factory/Panola College) and the Eagles trailed by as many as 21 in the second half but rallied to come within as few as eight on four occasions before ultimately falling short.

How it Happened

Trey Pettigrew (Chicago, Ill./Kenwood Academy/Nevada) netted Eastern’s first four points as the teams traded baskets in the early stages.
 

A Henry layup put EMU up, 21-19, midway through the opening half before Miami used a 15-3 run to take control with a 47-38 lead going into the locker room.
 

The RedHawks continued their hot shooting out of the gates in the second half, starting the frame on a 12-0 run, building their largest lead of the game at 59-38 with 15:44 left.
 

Eastern put together a 17-8 spurt to come within 12 prior to Miami pushing its advantage back out to 15.
 

EMU continued its comeback efforts, cutting the RedHawks’ deficit to as few as eight points on four occasions over the game’s final 6:13 prior to the buzzer’s final sound.

Game Notes

» Eastern moved to 10-10 overall and 4-4 in the MAC while Miami improved to 15-5 overall and 7-1 in conference action.

» Eastern Michigan was 27-of-62 (43.5%) from the floor and 10-of-23 (43.5%) from three-point range while Miami was 26-of-53 (49.1%) from the field and 9-of-19 (47.4%) from deep.

» With his nine-point showing, Nelson had his streak of 15-straight games with at least 10 points snapped.

» Nelson produced a career-high three blocks.

» After scoring 25 points, Henry moved into the MAC lead with an 18.8 points per game average during conference play.

» Henry is the first Eagle to record 25 points and six assists in the same game since Tyson Acuff had 29 points with six assists, Jan. 31, 2023, against Ohio.

» With three made three-pointers, Henry has converted at least one three-pointer in each of the last 15 games.

» Arne Osojnik (Ljubljana, Slovenia/Dream City Christian) scored 15 points while making two three-pointers and a career-high three free throws. Osojnik, who scored 16 points at Bowling Green, Jan. 18, and against Ohio, Jan. 21, has at least 15 points in three out of four games for the first time in his career.

» Jalen Terry (Flint, Mich./Beecher/Oregon/DePaul) netted 12 points behind four made three-pointers. Terry, who registered his sixth game in the 2024-25 season with at least four made three-pointers, has 13 games in double figures this season and 37 such games in his career.
» Dillon Tingler (Hurricane, W. Va./Huntington Expression Prep) recorded five rebounds, all of which came in a three-minute span in the second half. Tingler also put in his fifth three-pointer of the season.
» Nine different Eagles scored for the sixth time this season as all nine also made at least one field goal for the second time this season, with the other coming at Davidson, Dec. 28.

Historical Notes
» EMU moved to 29-56 against Miami.
» Eastern, which hit 10 threes against Miami, has now hit at least one triple in 633-straight games. EMU last failed to score from downtown Jan. 24, 2004, when Miami University held the Eagles to 0-of-7 from behind the arc. The Eagles have converted multiple three-pointers in 55-straight contests, not having done so most recently in a 1-for-15 performance against Akron, Feb.14, 2023. Dating back to the final game of the 2023-24 season, EMU has 21 consecutive games with at least five made three-pointers, the Eagles’ longest streak since at least the 2008-09 season.
