Falling on the second new moon after the winter solstice, Lunar New Year has arrived, marking January 29th the start of the Year of the Snake. Fortunately a melting pot city like Miami has plenty of exciting and delicious ways to celebrate in style. From multi-course meals to specialty dishes and, of course, plenty of lion and dragon dances and other symbolic traditions.

Here are six great options if you’re looking for ways to ring in the Year of the Snake in Miami.

La Mar by Gastón Acurio

Celebrate the Lunar New Year with an exceptional fusion of cuisine and culture via a special dinner collaboration with Chifa Du Kang at La Mar by Gastón Acurio available exclusively on Wednesday, January 29. Chifa Du Kang dishes include Pollo Chijaukay, a crispy chicken with ginger and oyster sauce; Siu Mai, a steamed pork, siu mai with hoisin sauce; and Chancho Asado con Piña with sweet and sour charsiu pork with pineapple. Guests can also feast on three special dishes from La Mar that will be available from Monday January 27th until Sunday February 2nd (excluding January 29) including Min Pao Especial — a steamed bao filled with chicken, pork, Chinese sausage and quail egg — and Spicy Steamed Wontons and a Chinese Egg Tart. Start your evening at MO Bar in the lobby for a traditional Lion Dance and an opening ceremony at 6:30pm while enjoying a signature “Lucky Snake Bite” cocktail, crafted for this special occasion. Guests are also welcome to partake in a very special tradition of writing wishes and blessings on a red envelope then hanging them on an exclusive Good Intentions Tree.

Komodo

On Wednesday, January 29, Komodo is celebrating Chinese New Year with a thrilling night of entertainment, including Chinese lion dancers, dragon performances and a midnight champagne toast. End the night with a Love Letters dessert, a soft crepe with a cream filling and a fortune inside, sure to bring good fortune into the new year.

1-800-Lucky

Celebrate with a feast like no other at 1-800-Lucky. Of course, the Wynwood food hall that’s known for its delicious Asian cuisine is going all out with its third annual Lunar New Year event, honoring the Year of the Snake. On Saturday, February 1, 2025, from 12 to 6pm you can experience a family-friendly day filled with delicious food and drinks, cultural experiences, and community spirit. In the afternoon at 3:30pm, guests will enjoy a vibrant traditional Lion Dance performance from Lee Koon Hung Kung Fu, symbolizing good fortune and the warding off of evil spirits. Guests can purchase a ticket ($65 via Eventbrite) and receive a traditional red envelope, which symbolizes good fortune, protection, with the dine-around tasting menu from the six food vendors, plus a beverage from the bar. Dishes include Longevity Noodles, soup dumplings, lumpia, salmon crispy rice, “Tangyuan” as onigiri, and good fortune lychee fruit salad.

Hakkasan at Fontainebleau Miami Beach

Now through February 6th, you can celebrate Chinese New Year at Hakkasan with a special a la carte menu inspired by the Year of the Snake. During this special time, all Hakkasan guests will receive traditional red Wishing Ribbons and have the chance to write down their wishes for 2025. Each will be hung on the restaurant’s Ling Ling wall in hopes of bringing good luck and fortune. Additionally, on January 31 at 8pm, a traditional Dragon Dance will be performed for guests, commencing in Fontainebleau Miami Beach’s lobby and traveling to Hakkasan where it will conclude at about 8:30pm.

Toku

Ring in the Year of the Snake at Toku with a Lunar New Year dinner that’s aimed to be a feast for the senses. Featuring succulent dumplings and flavorful noodles, it’s a delicious meal that symbolizes wealth and prosperity in the coming year. Guests will get to experience a traditional Chinese Dragon Dance at 7pm, as they toast to the New Year while being mesmerized by a mix of culture, tradition, and culinary creations.

Smorgasburg Miami

Smorgasburg Miami is thrilled to announce the return of its highly anticipated Chinese Lunar New Year celebration. Now in its third year, this vibrant event will take place on Saturday, February 1 from noon to 10pm and Sunday, February 2 from noon to 8pm.. The weekend will be filled with an array of Asian cultures with a mix of delectable cuisine, interactive entertainment, and engaging activities for the whole family. The free, open-to-the-public event will feature guest vendors showcasing different Asian cuisines as well as Asian-inspired specials from Smorgasburg’s existing vendors.
