The Orange women fell 72-71 in a heartbreaking overtime loss to SMU in front of the Dome crowd on Thursday. Georgia Woolley led the way for the Orange with a team high 18 points, and scored her 1,000th point in the process.
The game came down to a fourth quarter was a battle, with the teams separated by one point at the five-minute mark in the frame. Neither squad was able to pull far ahead, and while it looked like Syracuse might clinch the win with 39 seconds to go and a 64-61 lead, SMU was able to tie the game from the three point line to force overtime. Extra time stayed tight, until a last-second field goal from SMU gave them a 1-point victory.
Now the Orange will try again against the Miami Hurricanes, who are 1-3 in the conference after their win over Pittsburgh earlier in the season. Miami is 11-4 overall, however. The Orange sit at a conference-worst 6-9 overall record.
