Miami Reportedly Makes Coaching Move

This ACC program has reportedly filled a vacant coordinator position.

Minnesota defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman is leaving the Gophers and will take over as Miami’s defensive coordinator, according to reports.

The Hurricanes fired defensive coordinator Lane Guidry on Dec. 31 after their defensive struggles down the stretch of the 2024 season, which heavily contributed to Miami missing the ACC Championship Game and College Football Playoff.

Hetherman will join the Hurricanes after helping Minnesota to an 8-5 record this season (5-4 Big Ten).

Under Hetherman, the Gophers ranked fifth in the FBS this season in total defense (285.7 yards per game allowed), ninth nationally in scoring defense (16.9 points per game allowed), tied for ninth nationally in passing defense (176.1 passing yards per game allowed) and 12th nationally in rushing defense (109.62 rushing yards per game allowed).

Miami finished 10-3 this season after losing three of its final four games. The Hurricanes blew a 10-point third-quarter lead in their 42-41 loss to Iowa State in the Pop-Tarts Bowl.

Miami will host Notre Dame to open the 2025 campaign.
