The state of the Miami Marlins farm system
I wrote about what the Miami Marlins farm system looked like in the Summer. It’s certainly better than it was before the season started. So what does Fangraphs think about the situation? Are the Miami Marlins getting the correct results? Is Peter Bendix doing a good job? Should Bruce Sherman be happy? It’s time for us to find out…
What is the state of the Miami Marlins farm system?
The Miami Marlins need to have a good farm system in order to consistently win at the Major League level. It’s important to point out that these rankings probably don’t include the recent trades done by the team.
Sitting at the top of the list are the Tampa Bay Rays. They consistently have good farm systems, and are an inspiration to other teams around the Major Leagues. That’s why Peter Bendix was even brought in to The Fish in the first place. I’ll skip most teams other than The Fish’s division rivals and of course The Fish themselves. The New York Mets are sitting seventh place, while the New York Yankees are in eighth. The Philadelphia Phillies are in thirteenth place, which puts them at right around the middle of the pack.
Perhaps ironically, the Washington Nationals are right under Philly, sitting in fourteenth place. It’s interesting how those division rivals are so close to each other. The Atlanta Braves have actually improved their farm enough to where they’re now in sixteenth place! Unfortunately, things aren’t as good for the Miami Marlins. The Fish are all the way in twentieth place at the moment. Like I said, it’s before the latest batch of trades have been completed.
As you can probably figure out at this point, these are not great news for the Miami Marlins. It would of cours ebe much better, if the team was higher up the list but indeed here we are. My guess is that after the latest trades, The Fish will go closer to the middle of the pack, but this is obviously far from welcome news for the franchise. Let’s hope that things will get better.
