OT Kai Greer a new target

The Miami Hurricanes recruited 6-6, 280-pound OT Kai Greer out of Charlotte (NC) Marvin Ridge High School last year … but Greer wound up at Georgia Tech. Now, after redshirting there, he’s in the portal.

And Miami is back on his trail.

The Hurricanes offered him a scholarship today, a day after he went in the portal.

“I just got off the phone with coach (Alex) Mirabal,” Greer told CaneSport. “He said I’m really talented, would fit in, that he’s looking to develop me.”

Greer is talking to several programs that appear likely to offer, but so far he lists two official offers, from Miami and Stanford.

“I’ve been talking with a lot of schools that are interested and that want me there,” Greer said.

Greer says Mirabal is working to set up a trip to Miami for him, and he’s figuring out his visit situation with his family.

“Coach Mirabal said it could be between the second and fifth (of January), so I’m figuring it out,” Greer said.

Greer previously visited Miami unofficially as a high school recruit and says “because of that I know the layout of the area. I just haven’t taken an official visit yet.”

Greer didn’t get into any games while redshirting this past season, and at Miami he could be developed this year for depth at a tackle position that has back Markel Bell and Francis Mauigoa … with an eye to Greer being a starter down the road. Greer says he is also open to cross-training inside, although he’s been a tackle previously.

Greer said he has no one in front at this point.

A final thought?

“I had a great relationship with coach Mirabal when he was recruiting me in high school,” Greer said. “So that’s good.”
