Man accused of ambush shooting in southwest Miami-Dade
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A man is facing three felony charges, including a count of attempted murder, after authorities said he was the gunman behind an ambush shooting outside of a southwest Miami-Dade apartment building the day after Christmas.
Miami-Dade police said Kenneth Deandre Williams was seen on surveillance video with “several unknown others” arriving in a Hyundai Tucson casing the Casa Matias apartment building, located at 14340 SW 260th St. in the Princeton area, waiting for the victim to come out just after 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
Authorities said Williams, 31, was seen following someone into the building and walking out.
Police said a few minutes later, as the victim walked out, Williams came up to him from behind and shot him.
An arrest report states that a Sunrise police officer spotted Williams sitting in the passenger’s seat of the vehicle Friday at the Sawgrass Mills Mall and took him into custody.
Williams, a felon convicted of aggravated battery on a pregnant victim, armed robbery and armed burglary, made a “self-serving statement” in an interview with Miami-Dade police, the report states.
Police arrested him on charges of attempted murder, felon in possession of a firearm and using a firearm in the commission of a felony.
As of Monday, he was being held without bond in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
