Miami Beach cop accused of battering wife relieved of duty

HOMESTEAD, Fla. – A Miami Beach police officer was arrested in Homestead last week following allegations of domestic battery, authorities confirmed Monday.

Jonathan Blanco, 30, who has been employed with the Miami Beach Police Department since 2019, was arrested after a Dec. 20 incident in which he pushed his girlfriend of three years, causing her to fall and sustain a cut to her left forearm, according to an arrest report obtained by Local 10 News.

Authorities said Homestead police officers responded to the scene after the victim called 911 during an argument that escalated at the couple’s home near the 2300 block of Northeast 42nd Circle.

The victim stated that Blanco pushed her into a door frame before fleeing the scene, investigators confirmed.

The following day, police said Blanco surrendered to authorities after being contacted during a follow-up investigation.

Christopher Bess, a MBPD officer and spokesman for the department confirmed that “Blanco has been relieved of duty in accordance with departmental policy, pending the outcome of an investigation led by the Homestead Police Department.”

Police also confirmed that the Blanco and the victim share a child.

Jail records show he is facing one count of battery with domestic violence.

He did not appear as an inmate in Miami-Dade’s jail website as of Monday morning.

Local 10 News has requested Blanco’s mugshot.
