MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — MIA was briefly locked down Saturday night when a woman was stabbed multiple times in the arrivals area and reports circulated of an active shooter. Miami-Dade police issued this statement to BocaNewsNow.com:

The Miami-Dade Police Department’s Airport Operations Bureau is investigating a stabbing that left one critically injured.

According to investigators, uniformed officers responded to reports of a stabbing. The preliminary information has revealed that the subject and victim were in the 4th floor level of the terminal. Without provocation, the subject attacked the victim by stabbing her multiple times and attempted to throw her over the railing.  The victim was able to escape the attack and ran down the stairs to the 3rd floor level, which is where the officers found her.  Additional responding officers took the subject into custody in the area where the stabbing originated and recovered the knife. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded and transported the victim to JMH Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition.

In the midst of the chaos, officers received reports of a possible active shooter. Using all available resources, the units were able to determine there was no active shooter and only the stabbing had taken place. Airport operations were briefly disrupted but have since resumed to normal operations.

Detectives are in the process of speaking with the subject, and the investigation continues. Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers of Miami-Dade at 305-471-TIPS, or 866-471-TIPS. Online: CrimeStoppersMiami.com and select “give a tip.”
