Report: Inter Miami interested in USMNT midfielder Weston McKennie
Weston McKennie was previously on Aston Villa’s radar earlier this offseason, but now has reported interest from MLS.
Inter Miami is interested in acquiring McKennie this summer, Italian outlet Gazzetta Dello Sport reported Friday. The Herons are currently second in the Eastern Conference and have had a positive season to date.
A move to MLS would unite McKennie with international stars Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, Luis Suarez, and Jordi Alba in Florida.
McKennie has one year left remaining on his contract with Serie A side Juventus and has been linked with an exit from Turin. Aston Villa was among several clubs interested in McKennie’s services last summer, but the Villains have failed to agree on a deal with Juventus for the U.S. men’s national team midfielder.
The 25-year-old midfielder is coming off a productive campaign for the Old Lady, winning the Coppa Italia and helping Juventus finish in the top-four of Serie A. He registered 10 assists in 38 combined appearances, logging just under 3,000 minutes of playing time.
However, Juventus’ parting of manager Massimiliano Allegri opened the door for McKennie’s potential exit from the club.
McKennie is currently on break following international duty with the USMNT earlier this summer. The USMNT suffered an embarrassing group stage exit from the Copa America, losing two of their three matches on home soil.
