Miami revamping personnel department with multiple hires

Miami is making multiple additions to its personnel department, a source inside the program confirmed to On3 on Tuesday night.

The Hurricanes are bringing in Arkansas State assistant athletic director for player personnel Trip Carrico as their new executive director of player personnel. Carrico will report to the executive director for recruiting, Steve Field. Carrico was previously at ECU, Virginia and Alabama.

Mario Cristobal is also bringing in Arizona State director of scouting DeVontay Love-Taylor as Miami’s new assistant director of player personnel. A former Florida State offensive lineman, Love-Taylor is from Trinity, Florida, and brings a Sunshine State background to the Hurricanes.

Previously a recruiting assistant at Miami, Jacob Lucas is returning to Coral Gables after spending six months at UAB as Trent Dilfer’s player personnel coordinator for offense. He was previously with the Hurricanes for four years and will return as their coordinator of scouting administration.

Cristobal and Miami are going outside the box for a new recruiting relations coordinator, hiring Frank Tucker, who runs The Cribs South Florida social media pages. Nick Sparber is being elevated from intern to Miami’s new assistant director of recruiting administration.

The moves come after Miami pieced together one of the top portal classes this offseason. The Hurricanes went all-in on Washington State transfer quarterback Cam Ward, who committed after initially announcing plans to enter the NFL Draft. They also landed Oregon State running back Damien Martinez, who was one of the top impact players to enter the portal in April. An All-Pac-12 First Team selection in 2023 as a sophomore, he rushed for 1,185 yards on 194 carries with a 6.1-yard average.

Miami also added receiver Sam Brown (Houston), defensive lineman Simeon Barrow (Michigan State), EDGE Tyler Baron (Louisville) linebacker Jaylin Alderman (Louisville) and cornerback D’yoni Hill (Marshall) in the spring.

Cristobal opens up Year Three at Miami on Aug. 31 at Florida.
