‘Significant’ storm damage reported in Miami County, cleanup underway

MIAMI COUNTY, Kan. (KCTV) – Authorities say wind gusts as high as 70 mph may have blown through Miami County Friday night, causing “significant” damage.

In a Facebook post, the Miami County Sheriff’s Office said they are aware of storm damage between 169 Highway and State Line Road, north of 247th Street. Crews are scheduled to be out Saturday morning to assess the damage and take photos.

“Preliminary information suggests at least 70 mph winds came through Miami County,” the sheriff’s office reported.

Community members with significant damage are asked to email Undersheriff Kelly at [email protected] so the department can respond and document the damages. All documentation will be sent to the Kansas City division of the National Weather Service.
