Previewing Miami football June 14 defensive weekend visitors
The Miami football program will host defensive backs D.J. Pickett, Chris Ewald, Amari Wallace and Sael Reyes and defensive lineman Myron Charles this weekend, beginning on Friday. Ewald and Pickett are the biggest names to watch this weekend.
Four-star linebacker Elijah Melendez and three-star CB Timothy Merritt are the only defensive players committed to Miami in the 2025 class. Merritt committed to Miami after taking his official visit last weekend. Miami could potentially add a commitment after hosting 10 prospects for official visits this weekend.
Four-star running back Girard Pringle Jr. is the only Miami commitment taking his official visit this weekend. Ewald and Wallace are the only official visitors this weekend trending to Miami per the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. This is a big weekend for Miami hosting defensive prospects.
Ewald, Pickett and Wallace are blue-chip prospects with a chance to earn significant snaps for Miami as true freshmen. Miami loses starting CB Daryl Porter Jr. after the 2024 season. The secondary is considered the weakest unit on the Miami defense entering the 2024 season.
Miami has an 87.5 percent chance for a commitment from Ewald per the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. Ewald is the 162nd prospect, 20th cornerback and 23rd player in Florida in the 2025 class per the On3 Industry Rankings. Ewald is visiting Georgia the weekend of June 21 and will announce his commitment on June 27,.
Pickett was projected as trending to Miami earlier in his recruitment. There are currently no 247Sports crystal balls with a projection for Pickett. On3 projects LSU with a 27.9 percent chance for a Pickett commitment, Miami at 14.3 percent, Georgia at 10.6 percent and Oregon at 8.8 percent.
Pickett has previously visited LSU and Georgia. Pickett will visit Oregon the weekend of June 21 following his Miami visit this weekend. On3 ranks Pickett as the sixth prospect, second CB and top player in Florida in the 2025 class. Pickett’s cousin, Booker Pickett Jr. was a 2024 signee with Miami.
Three 247Sports crystal balls logged Wallace to Miami in March. On3 projects Miami with a 95.0 percent chance for a Wallace commitment. Wallace is the 278th prospect, 24th safety and 40th player in Florida in the 247Sports 2025 composite class rankings.
Charles is the 126th prospect, 14th DL and 19th prospect in Florida in the 2025 class. There is one 247Sports Crystal ball projecting Charles to Florida State and On3 gives the Seminoles a 91.5 percent chance for a commitment. Miami does not currently have a DL committed in the 2025 class.
There are no crystal balls logged for Reyes. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine projects Texas A&M with an 83.0 percent chance for a commitment from Reyes. SMU hosted Reyes for his only other official visit last month. Reyes is the 457th-ranked prospect, 38th safety and 71st player in the 2025 247 Sports Composite rankings.
Miami needs to continue building on the momentum of Merritt committing after his official visit last weekend. The Hurricanes are still searching for their first blue-chip commit on defense in the 2025 class. This is a critical penultimate weekend of official visits for Miami in June.
