Georgia Tech cooks Miami Hurricanes on Victory Formation in EA College Football Game

FSU football has grown tired of Miami Hurricane fans talking about how they’re back for the 25th season in a row in the offseason, only to continue to wallow in the pits of mediocrity. This offseason has been no different, with Miami coming off a 7-6 campaign in 2023, with three wins against non-Power Five schools like Miami of Ohio, Bethune-Cookman, and Temple. Miami started its season 4-0, including a win over the overrated Texas A&M Aggies, who finished the season with the same record as Miami. The talk about Miami being back was at a fever pitch, and they allowed the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets to come into Doak South and beat them as +19.5 betting underdogs. Not only that, it was the method that they beat the Hurricanes. Miami had the ball, and all they had to do was take a knee, and the game would have been over. Winner’s call that “Victory” Formation,” which is included in the new EA College Football game. However, Miami head coach Mario Cristobal decided to run another play, and Miami fumbled the ball, giving it back to Georgia Tech with 33 seconds remaining in the game. Georgia Tech hit a 44-yard touchdown pass with one second remaining in the game to win the game 23-20. EA Sports announced there would be a Victory Formation in their new game, and Georgia Tech thought it was appropriate to show what’s possible if you don’t use it.

I can’t think of a more egregious play by a college football head coach. It was incompetence of the highest order and derailed Miami’s momentum as they lost the following week on the road against North Carolina. Miami lost four of its next seven, including a loss to a 6-6 Rutgers team in their bowl game. Great job Georgia Tech, but the Noles will show Miami how to take care of business in their season opener against the Yellow Jackets in Dublin, Ireland, in a few months.
