Miami Firefighters Battle Apartment Building Blaze

A fire erupted in a four-story Miami apartment building Monday morning.

Firefighters rescued many elderly residents by ladder.

During the search, a crew found a man with a gunshot wound outside a third-floor apartment. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, WPLG reported.

Police have not determined if the fire and the shooting were related.

Two firefighters who suffered heat-related illnesses also were transported for treatment.

Some residents said they heard an explosion shortly after 8:15 a.m.

Firefighters had to transition to an exterior attack as the conditions worsened.
